Como lo dice su p\u00e1gina oficial, las \u201cRequest for Comments\u201d (Petici\u00f3n de comentarios) \u201ccontienen notas t\u00e9cnicas y organizativas sobre Internet. Abarcan muchos aspectos de la creaci\u00f3n de redes de computadoras, incluyendo protocolos, procedimientos, programas y conceptos, as\u00ed como notas de reuni\u00f3n, opiniones y de vez en cuando humor\u201d.<\/p>\n

Cada RFC se deriva de una serie de publicaciones que ingenieros y expertos en materia de Internet hacen llegar a la ITEF (Internet Engineering Task Force \u2013 Grupo de Trabajo de Ingenier\u00eda de Internet), los RFC principalmente se utilizan para desarrollar un protocolo de red est\u00e1ndar, una funci\u00f3n del mismo o cualquier caracter\u00edstica relacionada con la comunicaci\u00f3n de la red.<\/p>\n

Los RFC surgieron a consecuencia de normalizar la comunicaci\u00f3n a trav\u00e9s de las redes inform\u00e1ticas, debido a que en un principio cada fabricante ten\u00eda sus propios protocolos de red propietarios y por consecuencia exist\u00edan muchos protocolos para un mismo prop\u00f3sito, circunstancia que afectaba la interconexi\u00f3n de software y hardware de diferentes fabricantes.<\/p>\n

Todos los protocolos de red est\u00e1ndar son definidos con un RFC, situaci\u00f3n que no ocurre con los protocolos propietarios. Cada RFC est\u00e1 conformado por un n\u00famero y se publica como un est\u00e1ndar despu\u00e9s de varias revisiones exhaustivas. Un RFC no puede repetirse ni se permite su eliminaci\u00f3n, absolutamente todos quedan para mantener un registro sin importar que est\u00e9n obsoletos. Cuando la versi\u00f3n final se ha publicado ya no se permiten m\u00e1s comentarios ni cambios, los comentarios y cambios s\u00f3lo se permiten a trav\u00e9s de un RFC subsecuente que sustituye al anterior (nueva versi\u00f3n o extensi\u00f3n del est\u00e1ndar).<\/p>\n
